Landmark Theatres will open LOT 68, a stylish bar and café adjacent to the newly remodeled Shattuck Cinemas. LOT 68 will allow guests to relax with food and cocktails prior to or after a movie as well as serve patrons who just want to stop by and watch the Cal game. During specially designated times, guests will be able to bring their drink, glass of wine, or bottle of beer inside the auditorium to enjoy during the movie.
The bar is named Lot 68 in tribute to Berkeley’s rich history, as lot 68 was the parcel of land purchased in 1860 by Berkeley’s founder, Francis Kittredge Shattuck, to serve as his homestead, and is the present day block where the Shattuck Cinemas is located at the corner of Shattuck Avenue and Kittredge Street.
The Shattuck Cinemas opened in May 1988 on the ground floor of the lovely Shattuck Hotel in downtown Berkeley, just one block from the University of California-Berkeley. It has been operated by Landmark Theatres since 1994. The ten screen film venue features an eclectic mix of foreign language cinema, independent film, and Hollywood favorites. Its location is just one block from Downtown Berkeley BART station, convenient to all the Bay Area, including San Francisco, just 12 miles away. Downtown Berkeley is the vibrant center of the city, with a growing arts district at its core – a mecca for movie-goers, art-lovers and food-connoisseurs.
In early 2009, the Shattuck Cinemas completed a comprehensive remodel, with new spacious and luxurious theatre seating in all auditoriums, new lighting design, carpets and paint. Two auditoriums were transformed into Landmark’s exclusive Screening Lounge™, with unique seating options of home-style couches, loveseats, chairs and ottomans, from the LoveSac® Company. Upgrades in the lobby and concession area were included in the comprehensive makeover. The new Lot 68 bar and café completes the renovations, making the Shattuck Cinemas the area’s premier cinema complex, and an East Bay entertainment destination.
