Artwork by San Francisco Museum Staff Art Comes From Art, Comes From Art highlights artwork by staff members of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco—the Legion of Honor and the deYoung. While working on the frontline team of a world-class institution, these artists sustain their own creative practices and contribute to the Bay Area’s vibrant local arts scene. Each of the seven participating artists presents at least one new work directly inspired by the museums—their collections, architecture, and/or visitors. From beadwork to painting, brush-and-ink comics, digital drawings, cartooning, and illustration, the works reflect the diverse approaches and perspectives that thrive within the museum’s creative ecosystem. The exhibition’s title nods to Art Comes from Art, the 2025 Wayne Thiebaud exhibition at the Legion of Honor, echoing Thiebaud’s belief that all art exists in dialogue with what has come before. In that spirit, Art Comes From Art, Comes From Art celebrates the circular exchange of inspiration—how working among great works of art, alongside a team of passionate art-lovers, sparks new creations and how those creations, in turn, keep the dialogue alive.
